Object Information:
Messier 27 (a Planetary Nebula)
This object was the first planetary nebula to be discovered; by Charles Messier in 1764.
Like many nearby planetary nebulae, the Dumbbell contains knots. Its central region is marked by a pattern of dark and bright cusped knots with dark tails. The central star is a white dwarf progenitor of the nebula.
In 1970, the expansion velocity ws measured at 31 km/s. Given its semi-minor axis radius of 1.01 ly, this implies the age is 9,800 years. The 1992 measured rate of expansion is under 2.3" per century, so the estimated upper age limit is 14,600 yr. It lies above the small constellation of Sagitta.

Skies prevented getting this in one evening. My first multi-night register and stack.
