Object Information:

Aka Caldwell 32.
This galaxy's slightly distorted wedge shape gives it the appearance of a herring or a whale, hence its nickname. Because this nearby galaxy is seen edge-on, astronomers study this galaxy to better understand the gas and stars located outside the plane of our galaxy. Bars generally affect both the motions of stars and interstellar gas within spiral galaxies and can affect spiral arms as well. Our Milky Way Galaxy is classified as a barred spiral galaxy.

Edwin Hubble classified spiral galaxies of this type as "SB" (spiral, barred)
UGC7860
Aka the Pup.
